Can you guys believe how quickly February flew by, while January felt like an eternity?! I don’t have many favorites this month, but I still thought I’d share them with you!
Food
This month I have found myself eating a lot of avocado. It’s funny because up until recently, I hated avocado and just couldn’t stand it and now I can’t get enough! As basic as it might sound, I love avocado toast with some lemon pepper and a sprinkle of salt in the mornings. I also really like eating it from the peel with lots of nutritional yeast and a sprinkle of sea salt. Avocados are great because they are abundant in nutrients and can be incorporated into meals in different ways.
Music
I have been listening to the soundtrack from Black Panther over and over again this month. It was produced by Kendrick Lamar and includes a total of 14 songs featuring different artists. Some of my personal favorites from the album are “All the Stars” by Kendrick ft. Sza, “The Ways” by Kendrick ft. Swae Lee, “I Am” by Jorja Smith, and “Pray for Me” by The Weekend and Kendrick. The movie itself is also a beautiful masterpiece and I’m so so happy how much this movie has inspired people. You can listen to the full soundtrack here . Definitely check both the movie and soundtrack out!
Book
This semester I am taking a Gender and Sexuality in Science Fiction class and we have been reading 1984 by George Orwell. I read this book back in high school, but it’s so good that I didn’t mind reading it again! The story follows a man named Winston who lives in a totalitarian society that is led by “Big Brother” (or the Party), who censors everyone’s thoughts, speech, and self expression. He is in charge of rewriting history to fit the history that the Party has made. Throughout the book he struggles with knowing the real truth and expecting the Party’s “truth”, all while secretly hating the Party and going against them. This book is a must read and you’d be surprised by the similarities from the novel to out society today.
Podcast
Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell are one of my favorite couples in Hollywood because they are always trying to be real and bringing light to important topics. Dax recently created a podcast called Armchair Expert where he has a variety of guests to talk about different issues and life experiences. So far he’s had his wife, Kristen, Ashton Kutcher, Fall Out Boy’s Pete Went, and more guests. I rarely listen to podcasts, but this one has easily become my favorite. You can listen to it here and new episodes are uploaded every Monday!
Misc.
My final favorite was a Valentines gift that I received from my boyfriend and it’s a Porg bobblehead. I watched Star Wars: The Last Jedi and fell head over heels for the porgs in the movie as well as the Star Wars franchise itself! My boyfriend helped me place him on my dashboard and he makes my car 100x cuter.
So those are my favorites for this month! Did any of these make your list?
Until next time
